Woodland District 50 announces Black History Month art contest for all grades

Woodland Community Consolidated School District 50 has announced an art contest for students in recognition of Black History Month. The event, open to all students from PreK through 8th grade, encourages participants to create artwork based on the theme “A Century of Black History Commemoration.” The goal is for students to reflect on significant people, events, and moments that have influenced Black history and culture over the past century.

Submissions are due at each school office by January 30, 2026. Winners will be revealed during a celebration scheduled for February 7, 2026. According to the district’s announcement: “Join us as we celebrate and honor history, creativity, and student voices across Woodland District 50.”

The Woodland Community Consolidated School District 50 includes several schools in Lake County: Woodland Elementary School, Woodland Intermediate School, Woodland Middle School, and Woodland Primary School. More information about the district can be found at https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/.

Recent data shows that the district employs 399 teachers with an average salary of $69,342 before pension contributions; women make up about 84.6 percent of the teaching staff while men account for 15.4 percent. Demographically, the student population is made up of approximately 39.6 percent White students, 9 percent Black students, 33.4 percent Hispanic students, and 11.4 percent Asian students (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). In terms of spending, the district reported expenditures of $23,682 per student in fiscal year 2020 for a total budget of $125 million (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
