Lake Bluff ‘Visioning’ workshop slated Wednesday

A Village of Lake Bluff special workshop meeting of the joint plan Commission & Zoning Board of Appeals and Architectural Board of Review is slated for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at 40 East Center Ave.

The gathering, set for the Village Hall boardroom, represents the culmination of several months of preparation by the Committee of the Whole (COW) in its quest to find an optimum redevelopment plan for the village’s Central Business District (CBD).

With the launch initiative known as the "Downtown Visioning Project," the Village hired land use planners/consultants Teska Associates Inc. to execute a survey of CBD Block Two (bounded by Scranton/Oak/North/Walnut) and Block Three (bounded by Scranton/Oak/Evanston) and prepare streetscape guidelines with public input.

The company helped the village solicit input from the community starting in 2015 with a public engagement process and a website, where citizens were encouraged to upload their “favorite destinations” that were compiled into a Visual Preference Survey and displayed at a June 2015 open house.

Having accepted the draft Downtown Subarea Visioning Report in October 2015, the COW presented the report to the Planning Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals (PCZBA) and the Architectural Board of Review (ABR) for final approval on Oct. 26, 2015.

Subsequently, the two agencies met Dec. 16, 2015, to discuss the results, including community feedback, with Jodi Mariano of Teska Associates.

The public is invited to attend Wednesday’s meeting to further review and discuss the report. A portion of the meeting will be devoted to public comment along with regular reports and scheduled agenda items.
