Military veteran and business owner Mike Amrozowicz, Republican candidate for the District 31 state Senate seat, has won the official backing of a women’s coalition.

Warren Township Supervisor Sue Simpson, acting as co-chair of the Women for Mike Amrozowicz Coalition, said the coalition is impressed by the candidate’s issue-based platform.

“(He) has the right priorities and values,” Simpson said. “Mike is running to be a truly independent voice that represents the people of his community, unlike so many of the career politicians in Springfield, who answer first to their special-interest donors and party bosses.”

Amrozowicz’s campaign website spotlights his priorities: balance the budget, expand the economy and pass term limits in Illinois, with a specific pledge to limit his own tenure in the Assembly to 10 years.

“Our community is hurting because of crushing property taxes, jobs fleeing the state and a failed state government that can't even pass a balanced budget,” Simpson said. “If you want property-tax relief, great schools and more economic opportunity, vote for Mike Amrozowicz."

Fighting to break down the Madigan super-majorities and the resultant stranglehold placed on state government, Amrozowicz became etermined to run for office when he kept “seeing the career politicians in Springfield destroying our state,” Amrozowicz's website said.

Women for Mike Amrozowicz Coalition Co-Chair JoAnn Osmond previously held the District 61 seat.

"I've been in Springfield and seen the dysfunction firsthand,” Osmond said. “Too many legislators are afraid to take a stand and really lead on the issues. What I see from Mike is something different. Mike is not a career politician; he's a Navy veteran and small-business owner. He knows how to get things done.”

With a bachelor's from Southern Illinois University and a master's from Cameron University, Amrozowicz has lived with his family in Gurnee for the past 14 years.

“I've been involved in politics for a long time, and I've never seen a candidate work as hard as Mike does,” Osmond said. "He's out every day, knocking on doors or attending events so he can learn from voters in the community. Mike Amrozowicz has the work ethic to really get things done and the courage to stand up to those who are defending the status quo. If you're tired of politicians who are all talk and no action, you should support Mike Amrozowicz for State Senate."
