Lake Forest FD responds to 47 fires in 2017

Lake Forest Fire Department responded to 693 calls in 2017 - 3.5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Lake Forest included 47 fires - 29 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 10 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,982,700 in fire loss - or about $42,185 per fire.

The department also received 644 false calls, including one malicious call and 643 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries and one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and 10 were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Lake Forest Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 31 active employees and 42 retired or inactive employees, was $1,786,779 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $36,465 for every fire in 2016.
