The Lake County board has chosen Karimar Brown as its Republican nominee for the 18th District on November's ballot.

“I am excited to have this opportunity to expand my public service to Lake County,” Brown said in press release. “I am very concerned that the ever-increasing taxes — specifically, property taxes, are driving families across the border into Wisconsin. When I am elected I will fight to cut property taxes, as I believe that no family should be paying 2, 3 or 4 percent of their home’s value in property taxes every single year.”

Brown, a Vernon Hills resident, was nominated following the announcement that Aaron Lawlor would not be running for re-election.

“Kari will be an incredible voice on the Lake County board for the residents of the 18th District,” Lake County Republican County Chairman Mark Shaw said in the release. “She is an experienced and accomplished businesswoman, as well as a terrific family-oriented, community volunteer.”

Brown owns her own professional sports team, is a Ragnar athlete and an avid runner. She also devotes a lot of her time volunteering. Brown is married and has four children.

The 18th District includes the villages of Hawthorn Woods, Indian Creek, Long Grove, Mundelein and Vernon Hills.
