The City of Highland Park, in conjunction with Highland Park High School (HPHS) and the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce have begun to accept applications for professionals and businesses interested in participating in the Highland Park Career Exploration Program (HPCE).
The program will allow high school juniors and seniors to job-shadow professionals from the community.
“Building on the success of the City of Highland Park Student Commissioner program, the HPCE program is another opportunity for experiential learning that engages students," Mayor Nancy Rotering said. "It is a hands-on, first step in preparing them for the transition from student to the workplace. The partnership between the city, HPHS, the chamber and our business community makes this program possible. Together, we are building strong connections with our future leaders.”
Businesses who want to participate must be located in Highland Park, and the professionals must be business owners, directors or managers and be available for three two-hour sessions with the participating students.
“Our goal is to provide business-based learning experiences for students, as well as opportunities for our businesses to help students identify rewarding career paths. For the chamber, investment in the development of the future workforce furthers our mission of building community in Highland Park,” Highland Park Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ginny Glasner said.
Applications for professionals must be sent to City Hall by Jan. 8, 2016. Students from Highland Park High School who are interested should contact Amy Burnetti, chairwoman of fine and applied arts.
