Linda Pedersen, a board member from District 1 in Lake County, reminds all Lake County residents that they now have the opportunity to offer their input on the Illinois Route 53 Corridor Plan. There were two public open houses recently, but citizens can still submit their comments via email to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning website through Friday.
This feedback should concentrate on land use and transportation in the area. The goals of the Corridor Plan are for improved mobility, quality of life, natural-resource protection and economic development.
The increase in Lake County's population also has increased traffic congestion in the area, so the IL Route 53 Corridor Plan was made a top priority in 2009. By 2012, the Illinois Route 53/120 Blue Ribbon Advisory Council called for the creation of a 21st century urban highway to minimize congestion while protecting the natural environment.
A draft of the Land Use Strategy for the IL Route 53 can be found at lakecorridorplan.org and citizens can submit feedback to info@cmap.illinois.gov or through USPS mail to CMAP 233 South Wacker Drive, Suite 800, Chicago, Illinois 60606 Attention: IL 53/120 Corridor.
