Text-a-Tip, an anonymous text-based crisis hot line backed by Linking Efforts Against Drugs (LEADS) was successfully implemented in Deerfield and Highland Park schools in March.
The program is now available to all Lake County communities and will soon be available in cities across the country.
The Text-a-Tip system operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so residents can send anonymous texts and get immediate replies from licensed mental health professionals.
The aim of the program is to aid community members who have concerns about themselves or others, creating safer, healthier communities.
Anyone in Lake County wishing to use the system should text the phrase "LAKECO" to 274637.
Community-The Anti-Drug (CTAD) is also promoting the Text-a-Tip program.
“Parents, teenagers, educators, businesses and all residents should be aware of this valuable program, which provides a safe, confidential and easy way to share information that may help or save a life,” Harriet Rosenthal, CTAD's co-president, said.
CTAD represents the communities of Bannockburn, Highland Park, Highwood, Deerfield and Riverwoods. CTAD members are mayors, school board elected officials, city and village managers, school superintendents, principals, religious leaders and others.
“Promotion of the Text-a-Tip program is one of numerous initiatives that CTAD is undertaking in an effort to reduce the use and abuse of alcohol, marijuana and other drugs,” Laura Kaufman, co-president of Community-The Anti Drug.
