The Lake County Board recently adopted several amendments to the County-wide Watershed Development Ordinance (WDO).
The ordinance sets minimum standards for new development projects taking place anywhere within Lake County's watershed. Changes include new emergency-management flood-plain maps, and reformatting of the ordinance itself, Lake County officials said.
All Lake and Cook County communities are required to adopt the amended ordinance by Feb 16. Communities that do not do so risk losing their "Certified Community" status with the National Flood Insurance Program. The certification allows municipalities to administer all of their own watershed-development rules.
