Morrison bill would require governor, legislators to negotiate budget impasses
State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Dist. 29) recently introduced Senate Bill 2190, which would require the governor and the four top leaders in the Legislature to meet publicly on a weekly basis any time the state enters a new fiscal year without a budget.
“These are extraordinary circumstances, and we are in need of extraordinary measures,” Morrison said. “At no time in the state’s history have we had such a protracted budget impasse. Our state is in desperate need of a budget agreement so that the many functions of Illinois government can be delivered to our residents.”
The bill was sent to the Assignments Committee for review.
