The Village of Gurnee Board and 12 department heads from local government held a special meeting at Key Lime Cove Resort on Oct. 30 to develop a strategic plan for the village.
Village Consultant Julia Novak facilitated the planning process, which began with board members taking turns delivering five- to- seven-minute monologues on their beliefs and visions for the village.
Having heard one another's speeches, board members were asked to identify and rank their priorities. Collectively, the group identified 30 different priorities.
Each trustee was then given nine stickers and asked to place one next to each of the priorities they felt were the most important factors for the village's success. The five priorities with the most votes were exceptional village services and staff, fiscal sustainability, well-maintained infrastructure, safe and livable community and high-quality lifestyle.
The trustees completed the session by agreeing that they all want the village's quality of life to be at 100 percent 10 years from now.
