The Lake Forest City Council held its regular meeting on Nov. 2.
The council voted to adopt the audit report for the current fiscal year, which consists of an audit opinion, a review of government-wide financial statements, fund financial statements, budgetary schedules, management assessment and analysis.
The council expressed concern about new accounting standards that are forcing municipalities to overhaul their bookkeeping practices in order to disclose more pension information, though the first of those rules --implemented during the current fiscal year -- did not have a major effect.
The council also decided that this year's tree lighting ceremony, the 32nd year it is being observed, will be scheduled for this Friday, Nov. 27. The event is being managed for the first time by the foundation Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation in an effort to move the activity closer to the downtown business district. The event will feature a children's movie at Gorton Community Center.
As peer-to-peer service companies like Uber and Air Bnb continue to thrive, the council also made motions to consider how these companies affect transportation and tourism services in the city.
The council also approved more than $1.5 million in two contracts for improvements for the East Train Station Improvement Project. The city will receive 80 percent of the money back through a federal grant program.
