Lake County has been recognized in Site Selection Magazine’s list of the top 10 U.S. counties for business, based on economic development and local conditions.

According to a press release, Lake County was named one of Site Selection Magazine’s top 10 U.S. counties for business in its annual "America’s Best Counties" report. The ranking evaluates counties based on their performance in attracting corporate facilities, investment, and job creation. The magazine highlighted Lake County’s economic growth, strategic location near Chicago, and job-generating investments as contributing factors. This recognition also reflects efforts by Lake County Partners, the county’s economic development organization focused on business retention and attraction.

The county's proximity to major transportation hubs, infrastructure reliability, and workforce initiatives were identified as key assets. Lake County serves as a center for industries such as life sciences, manufacturing, and professional services and hosts several well-known companies. Local institutions like Rosalind Franklin University and the College of Lake County contribute skilled talent through education-to-career programs. According to a press release, county officials collaborate with economic and workforce agencies to support job connections, promote tourism, and maintain Lake County’s status as a business-friendly location.

"We’re honored to receive this national recognition, which reflects our strong and ongoing commitment to expanding economic opportunity across Lake County," said Sandy Hart, Lake County Board Chair. Hart added that this achievement is about creating good-paying jobs and building a more inclusive future for all residents—priorities integrated into their strategic plan.

The Lake County Board comprises 19 elected members representing different districts responsible for approving the county budget, financial matters, and ordinances affecting government departments. Meetings are held at the County Administrative Tower in Waukegan or remotely via Zoom. Schedules and agendas are available online. The board convenes monthly for regular sessions along with additional committee meetings; all can be viewed live on LCTV according to Lake County.
