The Village of Gurnee Board held its regular meeting at Village Hall Nov. 2.
Paula Carballido, the director of Lake County Honor Flight, said this year's Gurnee Legion of Craft Beer Fest fundraiser was a success. The event raised $5,800; the board presented Carballido with a check at the meeting.
Carballido said the proceeds would be enough to send eight veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials honoring the wars they've fought in. Local Korean War veterans Frank Normoyle and Joe Riedel, who both went to D.C. this year, told the council they enjoyed seeing the memorials in the nation's capital.
Police Chief Kevin Woodside presented the Four Pillar Awards to Officer Dan Wielgat (Crime Prevention Award), Detective Jack Metcalf (Crime Response Award), Sergeant Jim Lange (Community Impact Award) and Officer Kevin Schreiner (Team Building Award).
Village Administrator David Ziegler presented a review of the new 10-year sewage agreement between Lake County and North Shore Water Reclamation District. The new deal is expected to raise the average monthly bill by approximately $5/month. The increase will likely be much higher for businesses with high water usage, such as restaurants.
The trustees also unanimously approved the Lake County Watershed Development Ordinance and approved November as “National American Indian/Alaska Native Heritage Month" in Gurnee.
