The Village of Mundelein and the Mundelein Business Alliance recently partnered on a promotional campaign called "Think Local Mundelein" that coincided with Nov. 28's "Small Business Saturday."
Both campaigns are focused on promoting spending at local, independently owned businesses as a way of helping small town and village economies thrive.
“We are very excited about the ‘Think Local Mundelein’ campaign, and we have received an enthusiastic response from the businesses we have approached," MBA member and business owner Melissa Norton said. "Our campaign will endure long after Small Business Saturday on November 28. It’s going to take some time to engage business owners and our residents, but we feel very confident that we will be successful."
Norton also insisted that investing locally benefits both residents and small businesses.
"We are fortunate to live in Mundelein, and we all should do whatever we can to make Mundelein the best it can be. We are taking a very grass roots approach with this campaign and over time both businesses and residents will benefit by thinking local first and whenever possible," Norton said.
Retail sales in the village have been on the rise in recent years. In 2013, Mundelein retailers generated $474 million in sales, followed by more than $500 million last year.
Mundelein officials calculate that if every resident spends just $50 each month at Mundelein businesses, it would account for $9 million in sales and $200,000 in sales tax revenue for the village.
