The City of Highland Park City Council approved an $80 million budget at its Monday meeting.

The city also approved a flat tax levy, meaning rates for the coming year won't increase from this year.

“The 2016 budget provides a strong statement reflecting the policies and priorities of our community," Mayor Nancy Rotering said. “This budget meets our core priorities, finds efficiencies and plans for the coming year and the future with an eye on potential challenges and opportunities. This budget will ensure excellent service for our residents and businesses and support our vibrant community. We appreciate the extensive public input and dedication by staff as the budget was developed.”

The budget includes $14 million of capital improvements, including street, bridge, sewer and water upgrades. It will also pay for sidewalk additions to BikeWalk 2030, facilities improvements and other infrastructure upgrades.

While the property tax won't increase, the new budget does include a 5 percent increase in water fees as well as higher rates for sanitary sewer services, storm water utilities and new private contractor fees.

The budget is the result of four neighborhood meetings, eight budget workshops and a public hearing.

The final, adopted version is available for public review on the city's website.
