Lake County economy on the rise

Economicgrowth

Several figures recently released by county officials indicate that the Lake County economy continues to experience steady growth.

The county excelled in both new jobs and tourism revenue, adding 8,602 jobs between September of 2015 and the same month last year, generating a record $1.26 billion in visitor spending. The county received an additional $76 million in sales tax revenue from that same spending. County officials said the total tourism industry in Lake County supports 10,300 jobs.

The county was also eager to highlight the economic impact of its spending on infrastructure projects. Road improvement projects focused on streamlining traffic have also saved Lake County commuters nearly 545 gallons of gas each day, worth a total of $9.8 million/year. The county also counts these savings in terms of time, with 1,625 fewer hours spent waiting in traffic.

Increased jobs and tourism in addition to infrastructure developments are indicators of a strong economy, supporting the county's AAA bond rating that bolsters the credit of local businesses.

The county also boasts a 4.6 percent unemployment rate, which is lower than both the Chicagoland and Illinois state average.
