Environmental and Energy Commission meeting to address sealants, cycling

Wilmette logo

Cycling and coal tar are up for discussion at Wilmette’s next Environmental and Energy Commission meeting 6:30 p.m. Monday at Village Hall, 1200 Wilmette Ave.

Directly after the call to order, minutes of the commission’s Jan. 26, 2015, meeting will be approved.

The chairman’s report will be followed by a staff report, old business, an update on a bicycle task force and discussion of a coal tar sealant.

A memorandum from Director of Community Development John Adler dated Jan. 7 requested, on behalf of Village President Bob Bielinski, a coal tar sealant report to cover scientific research, regulatory matters, existing ordinances, industry positions, local applications, cost and scope.

The Village previously received requests to prohibit the use of coal tar sealants due to environmental concerns.

A participation discussion will cover “Going Green Matters EEC.”

New business will be introduced, and the floor will be open for public comment prior to adjournment.
