With tax levy issues at the forefront, Mayor Lawrence Hanson called the Village of Antioch Board of Trustees' public hearing to order at 7:02 p.m. Dec. 21, 2015, at Antioch’s Municipal Building.
The meeting was called to explore an ordinance that provides the levy of taxes for Antioch, Lake County and Illinois for the fiscal year beginning May 1, 2015, and ending April 30, 2016.
Director Joy McCarthy reviewed the ordinance and discussed the reason for its adoption, explaining that the 35.72 percent increase does not actually represent an increase to the taxpayer.
McCarthy offered further explanation about the impact of such a levy on the Village of Antioch citizens, adding that such an increase cannot exceed more than 5 percent per PTELL tax caps.
The only exceptions would be for bonds or new-construction residences.
The public portion of the hearing was closed, and with no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 7:13 p.m.
