The 2015 standardized test scores for Barrington Community Unit School District (CUSD) 220’s Roslyn Road Elementary School were below average despite the school district posting the highest per student spending, according to a report recently released by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
The ISBE report found that 64 percent of students in Roslyn Road Elementary School who took the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) exam in 2015 passed, which is 1 percent lower than the 65 percent average of elementary schools throughout the county.
Elementary schools in Barrington CUSD 220 posted the highest spending per student at $16,178, which substantially exceeded the $13,476 average for Lake County.
Roslyn Road Elementary School is the only school in Barrington CUSD 220 that posted scores below the county average. Barrington CUSD 220’s Grove Avenue Elementary School, on the other hand, posted the county’s highest elementary school PARCC passage rate at 74 percent.
Other Barrington CUSD 220’s elementary schools that scored above the county average were Arnett C. Lines Elementary School (68 percent) and Hough Street Elementary School (73 percent), which posted the second-highest PARCC scores in Lake County.
Arnett C. Lines Elementary School’s passage rate tied with Libertyville SD 70’s Copeland Manor Elementary School, despite Copeland Manor spending $11,783 per student -- $4,395 less than Arnett C. Lines Elementary School.
Briargate Elementary School, which is part of Cary CCSD 26, spent the least at $10,006 per student and reported a 54 percent passage rate.
Out of 10 elementary schools in Lake County, only two other schools posted a lower passage rate than Roslyn Road Elementary School: Cary CCSD 26’s Briargate Elementary School and May Whitney Elementary School.
Other Lake County elementary schools with below-average funding per student were Mundelein ESD 75’s Washington Elementary School ($10,009), Libertyville SD 70’s Copeland Manor Elementary School and Rockland Elementary School ($11,783).
Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96’s Kildeer Countryside Elementary School spent $14,176 per student and posted the third-highest PARCC passage rate at 70 percent.
Middle Schools
Libertyville SD 70’s Highland Middle School posted the highest passage rate among middle schools in the county, despite spending below the average per student.
Highland Middle School’s PARCC passage rate was 63 percent while the school spent an average of $11,783 per student. Barrington CUSD 220’s Barrington Middle School Station had a passage rate of 60 percent and spent $16,178 per student.
Mundelein ESD 75’s Carl Sandburg Middle School scored below the county average with a passage rate of 38 percent and spent an average of $10,009 per student.
High Schools
When it came to PARCC test scores for Lake County high schools, the average passage rate was 47 percent, and the average amount spent per student was $16,624.
Barrington CUSD 220’s Barrington High School (38 percent) and CHSD 155’s Cary-Grove Community High School (22 percent) both had a passage rate below the county’s high school average, and spent $16,178 and $14,618, respectively, per student.
Schools that scored above the 47 percent average passage rate were Lake Zurich CUSD 95’s Lake Zurich High School (49 percent; $12,291 per student), CHSD 128’s Libertyville High School (61 percent; $21,255 per student) and Adlai Stevenson HSD 125’s Adlai Stevenson High School (66 percent; $18,778 per student).
The PARCC test is a standardized exam used in several states to evaluate schools and student performance. Illinois began using PARCC tests to assess its students in 2015.
