Dist. 26 GOP state Senate candidate Dan McConchie spoke out after hearing Gov. Bruce Rauner announce his latest budget plan on Wednesday.
Showing his support for Rauner's initiatives to turn the deficit around, McConchie said structural change “is absolutely necessary in our state.” McConchie mentioned the facts and figures brought up by the governor to stress how fundamental the problems are and how important it is to address the financial problems.
“There’s no way we can tax and borrow our way out of the fiscal mess we are in,” McConchie said. McConchie wasn’t pleased with House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Dist. 22), who McConchie said looked down at his desk during Rauner's entire speech on Wednesday -- never looking up.
“He wouldn’t acknowledge the audience or the governor,” McConchie said. McConchie believes participation in the compromise that the governor proposes between Democrats and Republicans to find a solution to the large deficit in Illinois begins with listening.
McConchie said this was evidence of what was truly wrong with the situation and who was responsible for it.
“It is the speaker and the president and the Senate who are the No. 1 problem,” McConchie said.
McConchie supports structural changes to mend the broken budget process in Illinois.
