Rep. Nick Sauer (R-Lake Barrington) is encouraging grade school students in his district to foster a love of reading over the summer with a club challenging them to tackle eight books, according to a press release.
Students should ensure their parents have a copy of Sauer’s "Summer Reading Program" brochure, which has been supplied to schools and libraries. They also can be picked up at Sauer’s Libertyville office at 1585 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Parents and guardians are being asked to sign off upon a child's completion of each book, with books of more than 150 pages counting as two books. The completed form must be returned to Sauer’s office by July 29.

Students who finish the program will receive a certificate noting their achievement and be invited to a celebration with the representative in the fall.
“Developing a love of reading at a young age helps set children up for future success in school and life,” Sauer said in the release. “I hope lots of kids will accept the challenge to join my summer reading program this year.”
Local libraries in Sauer’s district include Barrington Area Library, Ela Area Public Library, Vernon Area Public Library, Fremont Public Library and Cook Park Library.
