Grayslake FPD responds to 52 fires in 2016

Grayslake Fire Protection District responded to 437 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Lake County Gazette.

The calls in Grayslake included 52 fires - 19 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 24 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $131,735 in fire loss - or about $2,533 per fire.

The department also received 385 false calls, including six malicious calls and 379 other false calls.

Three fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Grayslake FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 31 active employees and 10 retired or inactive employees, was $815,969 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $15,692 for every fire in 2016.
