Village of Lake Zurich Board of Fire and Police Commission met August 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 5:09 p.m. by Commissioner Hilt.

Roll call shows the following Commissioners were present: Commission Hilt and Commissioner Bush. Also present: Police Chief Husak, Fire Chief John Malcolm, and Office Manager Jennifer Sprow.

Commissioner Kefly was absent and excused.

Public Comment:

None

Approval of Minutes:

Commissioner Bush motioned to approve the July 18, 2017 meeting minutes, seconded by Commissioner Hilt and passed on a voice vote.

Ayes: Bush, Hilt

Nays: None

Communications:

Police Chief Husak explained that a previous candidate had requested copies of their background report and polygraph exam. Chief Husak spoke with the Board and the candidate was informed that the Board's rules and regulations and Illinois statutes do not allow the release of this information. Nothing further has been requested.

Police:

Chief Husak reviewed the background investigations of two police officer candidates. There was discussion on the results of both background reports and the polygraph verification forms.

There was a motion by Commissioner Hilt, Seconded by Commissioner Bush, to move police officer candidate Jennifer Pascoe to the next phase in the hiring process which includes a physical and a psychological exam. On a voice Vote, there were alfayes and the motion passed.

For the second candidate, there was a motion by Commissioner Bush, seconded by Commissioner Hilt, to also move police officer Candidate Stephanie Wonders to the next phase in the hiring process for a physical and a psychological exam. On a voice vote, there were all ayes and the motion passed.

New Business:

Fire:

Chief Malcolm explained that there are two pending upcoming Lieutenant retirements, one in November 2017 and one in February 2018. Due to the retirements, two firefighters will be promoted and therefore, two new firefighters will need to be hired. The next step of hiring will be oral interviews. Chief Malcolm discussed dates with the Board. The Board stated that possibility doing 8 interviews on the regular meeting on September 19, 2017 would be ideal. Chief Malcolm will confirm the date/times with the Board. For the oral interviews, background bios will be provided.

There is currently an outstanding conditional offer to a candidate from the 2014 Eligibility List. The department has contacted the candidate to see if they would be interested in moving forward in the Lake Zurich hiring process and will wait and see the response.

Police:

Chief Husak stated that Dr. Selwig will be visiting the station to review the Assessment Center portion of the Sergeants promotional exam for any who requested it.

The interviews for the Training Sergeant position are next week and the candidates will present projects they've been working on,

Adjournment:

There being no further business to come before the Board, Commissioner Bush made a motion to adjourn and it was seconded by Commissioner Hilt. All ayes. Motion carried by voice vote. Meeting adjourned at 5:38 p.m.
