Lake County Sheriff's crash investigators are examining an incident where a vehicle struck a pedestrian, resulting in a 67-year-old Round Lake man being hospitalized on the night of July 4.
According to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 9:10 p.m. on July 4 at Fairfield Road and Nippersink Road in unincorporated Round Lake. Upon arrival, they discovered the injured man on the roadway.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Nissan Versa, driven by a 22-year-old woman from Wauconda, was traveling southbound on Fairfield Road near Nippersink Road when it struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian appeared to have been crossing Fairfield Road without wearing reflective or contrasting clothing and was not using a crosswalk. The location of the crash was unlit.
The release said that the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Nissan was unharmed and is cooperating with authorities. The Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is continuing its investigation into the incident.
