Charles M. Walsh, father of former U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) and father-in-law of Fremont Township Republican Precinct Committeeman Helene Miller Walsh, died Feb. 2 at the age of 85.
“It is with the deepest regret that we must inform you of the passing of Charles M. Walsh,” an email newsletter from the Lake County Republican Central Committee said “Our prayers are with Congressman Walsh, his wife, Helene, and their family.”
Charles Walsh was born on April 1, 1932. He played football while attending Lake Forest College and was inducted into the school’s football hall of fame. He served in the Marine Corps, was a real estate mortgage banker for three decades and then operated his own appraisal business.

Other survivors include his wife, Susan, eight other children and 19 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main Street in Barrington. Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela Street in Barrington.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wilson’s Disease Association.
