Median home sale prices were a mixed bag in Lake County's most expensive cities in 2017, according to sales data collected by Blockshopper.com.
Prices rose in several Lake County cities with the priciest homes, including Lake Forest, Riverwoods, Long Grove, Lake Bluff and Fox River Grove, which all had median sale prices above half a million dollars.
While Bannockburn, Kildeer, Barrington Hills, North Barrington, Green Oaks and Mettawa also had high median sale prices, median home buyers found better deals than the year before. Prices fell as much as 22 percent over 2016, with Bannockburn seeing the steepest decline.
North Chicago had the lowest median sale price last year: $74,250. That's up 28 percent from 2016, when the median home buyer paid $58,005.
Home prices rose in most Lake County cities. However, they remain up to 55 percent off inflation-adjusted highs during the real estate boom in 2007. At the bottom is Bannockburn, where the real estate market fell from an inflation-adjusted median sale price of $1,380,600 in 2007 to $620,000 in 2017.
Highwood has recovered the best. Median homes went for $373,500 last year, compared to $437,190 in 2007 when adjusting for inflation. That's a 14.5 percent difference.
