Wauconda FD responds to 87 fires in 2017

Wauconda Fire Department responded to 321 calls in 2017 - 44.5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Wauconda included 87 fires - 53 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 28 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $284,750 in fire loss - or about $3,273 per fire.

The department also received 232 false calls, including four malicious calls and 228 other false calls.

The Wauconda Fire Department had an annual budget of $11,658,401 in 2017.

The Wauconda FPD Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has 37 active employees and 12 retired or inactive employees, was $500,592 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $4,723 for every fire in 2016.
