Helene Walsh, the wife of former congressman Joe Walsh, has been selected to replace Nick Sauer for the 51st District seat in the Illinois House of Representatives.

"My wife, Helene Walsh, was sworn in today as the new IL State Rep. for House District #51. I'm so darn proud of her. She'll be a strong, independent voice for Conservative values. She'll be a true citizen legislator. She'll make her district proud. Way to go Leenie. Love you!" Joe Walsh, who is now a radio talk show host, said in a tweet.

Rich Miller, of Capitol Fax, speculated in a column earlier in the week that Helene Walsh may be considered for the seat.

Helene Walsh is a board member for the Salomon Center. According to a Salomon Center bio, she is chief operating offier of media production company Leenie Productions, LLC and also has a background in philanthropic activities.

Sauer resigned in his first term the state House on Aug. 1 after it was revealed that he had allegedly posted nude photos of his ex-girlfriend on the internet. Sauer also withdrew from the general election ballot in November and is currently facing a criminal inquiry into the matter.
