Illinois Republicans have selected Helene Walsh to fill the state House seat vacated by Nick Sauer who quit after allegations surfaced that he sent naked photos of an ex-girlfriend to other men.
Walsh serves on the advisory board at Project H.O.O.D., an inner-city nonprofit organization founded by Pastor Corey Brooks. The group trains individuals to be a positive influence in their community by imparting problem-solving, leadership, entrepreneur and peacemaking skills.
Walsh will now have to build a campaign against Democrat Mary Edly-Allen for Illinois’ 51st House District seat just months before November’s general election. Edly-Allen is a bilingual teacher at an elementary school in Grayslake, her website states.
Mary Edly-Allen
Walsh, a Chicago-area resident, was selected out of 20 individuals for Sauer’s seat, the Chicago Tribune reports.
She is married to former Rep. Joe Walsh, a tea party conservative and radio host.
District 51 includes Cook and Lake counties.
