Laraway Community Consolidated School District 70C students suspended, expelled 97 times in a single school year

Laraway Community Consolidated School District 70C reported one expulsions and 96 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred one students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 97 students during the year. That equates to 21.1 percent of the 459 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with a dangerous firearm weapon.

Of the 59 in-school suspensions, 44 were given to boys and 15 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 58 incidents. There were one incidents of drugs. For 43 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 37 out-of-school suspensions, 26 were given to boys and 11 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 34 incidents. There were two incidents of a dangerous firearm weapon. For 17 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
