Ken Idstein vows to be a "citizen legislator" who will keep politicians in check.

Ken Idstein wants to get Illinois government in step with where the rest of the country appears to be going.

“Local manufacturers are optimistic about the future, but not about the future in Illinois,” Idstein recently posted on his website. “Like you, they are concerned about high property taxes and dysfunctional government. Small businesses and families don’t have a voice in Springfield, our current representative has taken $1.5 million from (House Speaker Mike) Madigan. He isn’t looking out for us; he is looking out for himself and for Madigan. I’m running to be an independent check on politicians in both parties.”

Running against Rep. Sam Yingling (D-Grayslake) in the 62nd District, Idstein borrows from a recent Illinois News Network (INN) article that opines “Illinois’ tech manufacturers have a serious shortage of skilled talent and optimism about the state’s economic climate.”

Rep. Sam Yingling is the incumbent in the state House race.

According to INN, The Technology Manufacturers Association of Illinois (TMA) has compiled an assortment of surveys taken from among members over the last year that shows the national outlook for the economy among state manufacturers is more than four times greater than what it is for here in Illinois.

TMA president Steve Rauschenberger is on record in asserting that the largest issue keeping members from expanding “is the lack of educated talent in their area.”

Skilled trade employees are currently some of the most sought-after workers across the country, with polished tradesmen earning more than most median wages in short order, INN states.

Meanwhile, Idstein has made getting the state back on stable financial footing such a critical part of his platform he has vowed not to take a taxpayer-funded, state pension if he is elected.

“I am running for state representative to serve you and eliminate out-of-control spending by our state Legislature, consolidate duplicative units of government and find new solutions to fund schools in order to reduce our growing property taxes,” Idstein said in a press release. “I am not looking for a pension or a paycheck for a part-time job. It’s all part of [my] commitment to being a ‘citizen legislator.’”

The 62nd House District includes parts of Avon, Fremont, Grant, Lake Villa, Warren and Wauconda.
