APTAKISIC TRIPP COMMUNITY CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT 102: Discovering Strengths through Robotics

Robot

Aptakisic Tripp Community Consolidated School District 102 issued the following announcement on Oct. 30.

District 102 fifth graders are designing and building robots to maneuver three blocks through an obstacle course. “What I like best is that everyone starts with the same basic model and adds whatever they want to make the robot work,” shares Jonathon, a fifth-grade robotics engineer. These students are developing more than technical skills. They are exploring interests, discovering strengths, and becoming skilled communicators, effective problem solvers, experienced collaborators, and empowered individuals. Our vision for every student inspires us to create the conditions which have the greatest potential to develop and nurture these sustainable life skills and characteristics outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate.

“These skills are applicable today and essential for the future,” shares Courtland Funke, Meridian Project Lead The Way (PLTW) teacher. “When I explain the task, its the PLTW design process, room for creativity, learning from mistakes, and access to resources that move students learning forward.” In the photo, robotics-team members Noe and Emmanual’s solid teamwork and effective communication contributed to the efficacy of their ongoing brainstorming, testing, feedback, and redesigning.
