Fresh off his history-making performance at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships, Lake Forest College cross country star Jorge Villanueva has been named Forester Athlete of the Week.
Villanueva placed 29th out of 253 runners and, with a time of 25:27.8, his 8-kilometer time ranks third in program history. His top 35 finish also earned him all-region honors and the status of the first Forester to accomplish that feat in well over three decades.
Villanueva is also the first Lake Forest runner in school history to qualify for the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships, scheduled to be held at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Nov. 17. He is also now the proud owner of three of the top five and six of the 20 fastest times in program history.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays, with Villanueva having also won the honors earlier this month following his performance at the Midwest Conference Championships.
