DEERFIELD PARK DISTRICT: Three Thanksgiving Tips with a Healthy Twist

Park 06

Deerfield Park District issued the following announcement on Nov. 14.

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to be close to family and friends and give thanks for all of the good things in your life this past year. This gathering is usually done around a dining room table brimming with stuffing, gravy and mashed potatoes, which means it may not be the healthiest meal of the year. However, there is a way to do Thanksgiving with a healthy twist! Check out these tips for a lighter Thanksgiving meal.

WATCH YOUR PORTIONS

While it may be tempting to load up on all of your holiday favorites on one plate, that could lead to overeating. Instead, fill your plate with foods you can only enjoy this time of the year and limit yourself to one helping. Besides, leftovers taste great too!

EAT BREAKFAST

While this advice might sound counter intuitive, eating a small breakfast the day of Thanksgiving will actually help you feel full faster once you hit the dinning room table.

STAY FOCUSED ON FITNESS

Make sure you don’t stay on the couch watching the game all day! Come into SRC for a quick workout in the morning or take a family walk before dessert. Getting up and moving around will help you feel better after sitting and eating a large meal too! Check out what classes and activities are available Thanksgiving morning at SRC.
