Village of Wauconda Economic Development Committee met March 12.

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

1. Call to Order

Chair Linda Starkey called the Economic Development Committee Meeting to order at 5:30 PM.

2. Approval of Minutes

     The minutes from the February 12, 2019 meeting were approved.

3. Old Business:

     a. Update – Main Street Beautification

           Maria Weisbruch presented proposals to the Committee for the purchase of flowers for the downtown hanging baskets. The Committee directed Ms. Weisbruch to proceed with the low proposal from Countryside.

           Ms. Weisbruch provided the Committee with an update on the Art on Main fundraising event and the possibility of another art-themed fundraising event that could take place this spring. The Committee also discussed the coordination of the watering for the hanging baskets for the summer and fall season.

4. New Business

     a. Discussion – Economic Development Strategic Planning

           Administrator Timony began the discussion by reviewing the concept of a strategic planning process for the Committee in an effort to give the Committee some direction in the coming year and beyond. The Committee discussed the Village’s TIF District and possible action items in the coming year regarding the TIF, including marketing efforts, development options, size and scope of development, outreach to property owners, use of eminent domain, and a TIF redevelopment plan. The Committee also discussed the option of conducting a S.W.O.T analysis to assess Wauconda’s current economic development position.

          After discussion, the Committee agreed to continue discussion on the S.W.O.T and possible TIF development plan to the next meeting on March 19th at 5:00 PM.
