City of Highwood issued the following announcement on Sept. 16.
Hello Highwood resident! We Have A Tree For You!
We are excited to announce an upcoming tree planting project in your neighborhood!
It is free to participate - we will provide the trees, supplies, and facilitate the planting. All you need to do is commit to watering the new tree in front of your home between May and October for the next three years. Ten gallons (two 5-gallon buckets) of water per week will help each young tree survive and thrive. In turn, the bigger the tree gets the more shade, flood reduction, and other important benefits for your neighborhood for decades to come.
This is community effort to improve our environment, Highland Park High School student will be volunteering to assist with the plantings.
