Illinois State House District 61 issued the following announcement on Oct. 4
State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, presented Momcorn with a certificate for being recognized as her “Good Neighbor” Business of the Month in Gurnee. Momcorn is the first business to receive Mason’s “Good Neighbor” Business of the Month Award, a program Mason started to recognize the achievements of locally-owned businesses in the community.
“There are so many businesses in our district that go above and beyond their daily operations by choosing to serve and give back to our community,” said Mason. “Momcorn is an excellent demonstration of what it means to be a ‘good neighbor’ business. Momcorn has taken the initiative to get involved in our local schools by using items from their restaurant to teach our students the cultural significance of foods from Latin American countries, which is why they were nominated by members of our community to receive this recognition.”
Momcorn, located near Six Flags Great America, has been serving traditional Mexican food in Gurnee since its establishment in 2010. Mason is continuing her small business outreach by hosting a free “How to Start a Business in Lake County” seminar with the Illinois Small Business Development and International Trade Center on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Warren Newport Public Library located at 224 O’Plaine Rd. in Gurnee.
