ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 61: Mason Responds to Governor’s State of the State Address

61

Illinois State House District 61 issued the following announcement on Jan. 29

State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, released the following statement after Gov. JB Pritzker’s State of the State address on Wednesday:

“My first year as a legislator has come and gone, and during this time we made significant progress to get our state back on sound financial footing, while passing landmark reforms to protect survivors of domestic violence, remove cancer-causing chemicals from the air we breathe and make much-needed improvements to our roads and bridges through the first capital investment plan in years. This State of the State address offers a distinct opportunity for us to reflect upon what we have already achieved, but is also a time to consider what we still have to do in the coming months in order to build a stronger Illinois.”

“To steer Illinois in the right direction, my priorities this year include passing a bipartisan, balanced budget that continues to pay down our backlog of old bills while securing critical funding for our schools, senior and veteran care programs, and other vital community services like domestic violence shelters.”

“Our plans for the state moving forward must also address the burdensome property taxes that weigh on the minds and budgets of middle-class homeowners. Through meaningful property tax relief, affordable health care coverage and better training for high-wage jobs, we can continue building a stronger Illinois that works for the middle class.”

“I look forward to the work that awaits us in the coming year.”
