Illinois State Senate District 32 issued the following announcement on May 20.
Governor J.B. Pritzker withdrew his proposed emergency rule dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic before the Legislature’s Joint Commission on Administrative Rules, which was set to meet Wednesday. Sen. Wilcox (R-McHenry) issued the following statement:
“Great news! The people of Illinois spoke and their voices were heard.
Gov. Pritzker withdrew his emergency rule today (May 20) that would criminalize small business owners who are simply trying to open and support their families. Apparently, he did not have enough votes to get it passed in J-CAR, the Joint Commission on Administrative Rules.
My Republican colleagues and I made it clear to the Governor that subjecting business owners to a Class A misdemeanor charge - for violating his order - was a vast government overreach. And it would come at a time when business owners are doing everything they can to stay afloat.
This is a step toward restoring proper checks and balances to state government, just as our Illinois and U.S. Constitutions require.”
