Grant Community High School District 124 recently issued the following announcement
The Grant Community High School September Student of the Month is senior Brei Panares, son of Alex and Gigi Panares of Lake Villa.
Brei's academic achievements include induction into the National Honor Society during his sophomore year and he is currently serving as NHS President. He has qualified for Honor Roll every semester, named Golden Globe Student of the Month from the Social Studies Department, he successfully completed two Advanced Placement tests, and he earned the Youth Leadership Award, American Legion Good Citizen Award and Boys State Award. He holds an amazing 4.8/4.0 GPA.
His extracurricular activities include Marching Band, Pep Band, and Basketball.
Brei volunteered with NHS for multiple events such as Back to School Night, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and 8th Grade Enrollment. He is a Big Dawg Mentor, a Peer Tutor in the history lab, and a Youth Advisory Committee member. He’s also volunteered at Big Hollow and at Nature Walk Montessori.
In addition to all of his activities, Brei works as a Walmart Associate. He enjoys pursuing his interests of time travel, parallel universes, and aliens. He also likes travelling, where he has visited the Philippines, Canada, Hong Kong, and over 30 states. He has learned new sports such as golf and bowling, and plays ping pong and basketball. He also started a podcast called “The Villa”.
His plans for the future include majoring in nursing with a pre-med track and he is considering Loyola or Michigan.
