Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s 2022 budget proposal has failed to bring the state together, according to State Rep. Chris Bos (R-Lake Zurich).
"I have repeatedly said that I firmly believe we can rise to face the challenges before our state by working together and recognizing there is more that unites than divides us," Bos said in his speech in response to Pritzker’s budget address, Wednesday.
"While I do not often agree with Gov. Pritzker, he has repeatedly claimed to share a similar sentiment and desire to work together in a bipartisan fashion. Unfortunately, the budget he proposed today wasn't just simply partisan, he took direct aim at bipartisan agreements passed in 2019 to support job creators and small businesses.”
Bos was disappointed not to get more information on how the governor plans to provide enhanced aid to businesses that have been negatively affected by the pandemic.
“After a year of business closures, job losses, and IDES failures, I had hoped to hear a unifying message that would acknowledge tough decisions to reduce spending, provide efficient and effective government, and tax relief for those who are struggling.”
Bos said that the proposed budget would instead “once again hurt” Illinois families because of the governor’s “reckless approach and his failure to honor his commitments."
