The four-member Let’s Do Better slate fell short in its run for the Lake Forest District 115 School Board.
With four seats open, Amy Marsch finished as the top Let’s Do Better vote-getter with just under 12% of the vote, followed by Robert Moorman (11.24%), Jeff Giannelli (11.08%) and Joanna Marshall (10.46%).
Throughout the campaign, slate members made the full-time return to in-person learning their signature issue, particularly Marsch, who has a son in the local school system.
“My oldest son is now a freshman at the high school and the teachers have been in-person with him every day since the school has been open. It has been amazing for him,” she said. “The connection my son has made with his teachers has been incredible. I’m running because I believe the kids need to be put first. They need to be put back in school; their social and emotional health depends on it, not just their academics.”
Moorman, who was seeking reelection as board secretary, also wasn’t shy about taking a stand for what he believes in as evidenced by him recently being the only member to vote no to higher taxes.
“If we’re talking about capital improvements normally that should be handled by referendum and that way it’s not seven people voting on it, it's 20,000,” he said. “What we’re voting on is just to increase our piggy bank.”
A lifelong resident of Lake Forest, Moorman said he took pride in being seen as the board’s “fiscal conscience.”
