A state representative said many Illinoisans love living in the Prairie State and enjoy what it has to offer but are concerned about corruption at the state government level.
State Rep. Chris Bos (R-Lake Zurich) touched on the subject as part of the state House GOP YouTube video on the party’s Reimagine Illinois platform.
“I think a majority of us love living here. We love this state. When I’m out talking to families, they love what the state has to offer in terms of education, schooling, resources, the city, all those great amenities, Bos said.
Bos added that these same families are not pleased with certain things going on in Springfield.
“But on the same side, they’re sick and tired of the constant corruption, the constant high taxes, the constant need where the government’s putting themselves ahead of their own citizens so it’s time to reimagine what Illinois can be, what Illinois should be, and move this state forward,” the lawmaker said.
Ending corruption, as Prairie State Wire reported, is among the four focal points of Reimagine Illinois. The other three are: responsible fiscal leadership, growing opportunities for families, and ensuring public safety.
House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Burr Ridge) and his fellow party members introduced the legislative initiative in March.
Durkin told the Prairie State Wire that he and GOP lawmakers have been listening to their constituents, who have grown tired of the Democratic Party’s “hollow statements and lies.”
The Rockford Sun reported that state Rep. Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) has urged his party to support Reimagine Illinois as a way to implement police reform and decrease the scope of government.
University of Illinois-Chicago researchers determined that Illinois is the second-most corrupt state in the nation, independent think tank Illinois Policy reported.
