Sen. Adrian Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove) said May 17 that residents of Lake County would soon have improved travels when it comes to transportation.
The county's municipalities will receive $7.7 million in Rebuild Illinois infrastructure grants for road and other projects, Johnson said in a news release.
"Many communities in the area have suffered from historic underinvestment, and our infrastructure shows it," Johnson posted to Facebook. "The Rebuild Illinois program is a significant step toward restoring the neighborhoods that have gone unsupported for too long."
According to Johnson's release, funding is being distributed to ensure that cities and municipalities have the resources needed to repair local roads, bridges and maintain the infrastructure improvements.
“These funds will enable our local governments to make crucial repairs to roads, bridges and sidewalks in our community, creating jobs and making travel easier, safer and more enjoyable for everyone,” Johnson said.
Grant money can also be used for signage, storm sewers, bike paths or sidewalks and other long-term maintenance needs with oversight from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Funding for the projects comes from the fourth of six rounds of $1.5 billion in the Rebuild Illinois program.
