Lake County Law & Judicial Committee met June 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

1. Call to Order

Chair Cunningham called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

Others present:

Gary Gibson, County Administrators Office

Anthony Vega, Sheriff's Office

Arin Thrower, Communications

Carl Kirar, Facilities

Cassandra Torstenson, County Administrator's Office

Jim Hawkins, County administrator's Office

Diane Winters, Nineteenth Judicial Court

Sandy Hart, Board Member

Todd Schroeder, Nineteenth Judicial Court

Melissa Wach, Law Office of Melissa Wach

Michael Talbot, Village of Kildeer

Brian Smith, Lake County Municipal Prosecutor's Association

REGULAR AGENDA

8.1 21-0892

Presentation and Discussion: Lake County Branch Court Study.

Gary Gibson, County Administrator, gave an overview of the Branch Courts and does not recommend consolidating or closing any Branch Courts.

Cassandra Torstenson, Assistant County Administrator, gave a presentation of Branch Courts. Ms. Torstenson stated there were three options considered for the operations of the Branch Courts. Discussion ensued.

Judge Winter, Nineteenth Circuit Court, gave an overview of access to the Branch Courts. Discussion ensued.

Judge Christopher Stride, thanked everyone for their work on this. Judge Stride gave an overview of the court hearings using Zoom. Lake County was the only county that went completely to Zoom. Discussion ensued.

Todd Schroeder, Executive Director, gave an overview of why Branch Courts work for Lake County. Discussion ensued.

Cassandra Torstenson, Assistant County Administrator acknowledged all of the staff that helped with this project.

There were two public comments in regards to this item from Brian Smith, Lake County Municipal Prosecutor's Association and Steve Balinski, Village of Kildeer.

There was no County Administrator's Report.
