Rep. Bob Morgan (D-Springfield) recently used Twitter to help promote a winter accessory drive at Lake County's Mano a Mano, an organization that offers a broad variety of supportive services to the county's growing immigrant community.
Mano a Mano is currently accepting donations of hats, gloves, coats, scarves, and blankets through Dec. 15 to help people stay warm this winter, according to a Facebook announcement from the organization.
"As it's continuing to get colder, please bring any coats, hats, blankets, scarves, and gloves for Lake County families in need at Mano a Mano's Winter Accessory Drive until December 15th," Morgan stated on Twitter.
Mano a Mano was founded in 2000 and currently operates three community locations in Mundelein, Highland Park, and Wauconda.
According to its website, Mano a Mano's goal is to help enable immigrants and their families to participate in their communities.
"Our work is guided by our organizational values, which include: collaboration and community building, education, excellence, equality of opportunity, stewardship, and respect for human dignity," the organization states.
The group was founded by local politicians, community leaders, and law enforcement to serve as a hub for health services, education, and immigration legal assistance.
"Our vision is an integrated Lake County where everyone has access to opportunity and paths to success," the Mano a Mano website continues.
Mano a Mano is the only immigrant-serving charity in Lake County, providing assistance to approximately 4,500 people each year.
Morgan, who represents Illinois' 58th congressional district in Springfield, is an advocate for state budgets that are both "fiscally and morally responsible," according to Morgan's official website. Additionally, he served as the lead healthcare attorney for the State of Illinois, aiding the state in acquiring health insurance for approximately 650,000 individuals.
Currently, Morgan is a board member of the Anti-Defamation League and serves on the Board of Trustees of Equip for Equality.
