Round Lake Beach reopens building
department permit counter after 2-year
COVID hiatus
For Immediate Release: The Round Lake Beach building department has reopened the permit counter to cut through the proverbial “red tape” to give residents and contractors speedy and easy access to obtain village permits. Round Lake Beach Mayor Scott Nickles said the counter located in the lower level of village hall at 1937 Municipal Way will be staffed with a trained village inspector equipped with the knowledge to assist residents with obtaining building permits they specifically need. In addition, the inspectors will be able to immediately answer questions surrounding village codes. “We previously staffed the counter with a clerk, but we pushed to bring in a trained inspector to work behind the counter and be available to help out anyone who needs assistance,” Nickles said. “We are beyond happy to have the counter open again and able to offer this level of customer service to our residents and others doing business in the village of Round Lake Beach.” Round Lake Beach Economic Development Director Mark Janeck said the counter enables residents and contractors to interact with the members of the community development department face-to-face. He added the service counter will also enable residents and contractors to obtain permits, set up building and business inspections, and get answers about village codes faster.
“This allows contractors to have quick discussions with our experienced inspectors for as long as they need to,” Janeck said. “Developers and residents in need of permits for work to be done can now easily have questions answered quickly directly from the source.”
The permit counter was closed in March of 2020 due to COVID-19. Going forward, the service desk will be open and available without appointment from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“It’s good to see that we are slowly but surely putting COVID behind us,” Nickles said.
