Q3 2022 Recap: 14 parolees from Lake County convicted of sex crimes set for release

There were 14 offenders convicted of sex crimes living in Lake County released on parole during the third quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Lake County Gazette.

The data shows all of the released offenders among the parolees were men. Of the parolees sentenced for sex crimes, one was a veteran, and the median age was 47. The youngest parolee was a 26-year-old man sentenced in 2022, and the oldest was a 71-year-old man sentenced in 2008.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Mark A. Overton. He was convicted in 2010 when he was 44 years old. He is now 57.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
