A Waukegan company has been awarded the contract to replace the elevator at the city's water plant. The City Council accepted the bid from Lakeland Elevator, which will not exceed $749,797. The decision was made during the City Council's meeting on Oct. 16.

Lakeland Elevator was the only bidder on the contract, according to the Waukegan City Council agenda update for the Oct. 16 meeting. The bid opening took place on Oct. 2.

The bid proposal from Lakeland Elevator includes various aspects of the project, such as demolition of the existing elevator and equipment, masonry work, electrical work, fire alarm and detection systems, shaft and door openings preparation, lead pain removal/encapsulation, painting and patching. The proposal also covers all labor, materials, testing, and engineering.

The funds for the elevator replacement project are available in the city's Fiscal Year 2023 budget, according to the contract approval resolution attached to the Waukegan City Council agenda update for the Oct. 16 meeting.

With the contract awarded and the necessary funds secured, the elevator replacement project at the Waukegan water plant can now move forward.
